The Butterfly Horse

The “Butterfly” is designed to overcome a lot of the problems with sawhorses. It is sturdy, lightweight and flexible. It folds and is one-and-a-half sawhorses in size. This project begins with a 60″ x 60″ sheet of plywood cut into four equal squares. Further cuts are needed to produce the butterfly “wings.” Hinges and braces are utilized as well (the braces require a cold riveting process). The final Butterfly is strong, capable of holding several hundred pounds if the weight is properly centered.

Key Takeaways:

  • A sturdy worktable that is light weight and portable is hard to come by. This butterfly project shows how to make the perfect solution.
  • To start, you will need four equal pieces of plywood which you can then tack together.
  • After making the folding braces and cutting to make it lightweight, what is left is a butterfly looking sawhorse table that is strong and great for house projects.

“And for a lot of tasks two sawhorses are too many, and one is too few. But what if we had a sawhorse-and-a-half?”
